Vishad Bangar Seals a Big Win for SRP XI with a Destructive 93 Not Out

If Shavez’ innings on Saturday had been brutal, bigger draws were to follow on Sunday in a weekend for big hitters. Vishad Bangar, the star of this match, matched Shavez’ 93, although in less balls and completely different circumstances.

Bangar walked in with SRP at 39 / 4 in the 7th over, after having been put in by Yes Bank. The top order had been victimized by the sharp and steady seam bowling of Sandeep Arora, Dixit and Kumud Jha. First Dixit rocked the top order with a double strike in the 4th – Dinesh caught by the keeper off a feather edge and Manjeet clean bowled – then Kumud came on and picked up 2 wickets off his first three balls. Jaideep and Bangar, the two biggest hitters in the SRP line-up, were left to weather the storm. One of the two needed to fire, and Jaideep (JD) got the partnership going with a six over extra cover in the same over.

Bangar walks out after scoring 93 not out
Bangar swung straight for the same result in the 8th, before dispatching off-spinner Nitin Pahuja with a pull over square leg off the first ball of his spell in the 10th. The tweaker, though, struck back in the same over, picking up JD caught at square leg off a top-edged sweep. At 73/5 after 10, the match was poised precariously, but from that point on SRP, powered by the heavy bombardment unleashed by Bangar’s flailing blade, swung the game their way emphatically, one over at a time.

The story of the latter phase began in the 13th over, as the left-handed Rajnish sliced the off-side field and found the cover boundary off 3 successive deliveries. Vishad gave meted out similar treatment to Nitin Pahuja in the 14th, blasting two consecutive cover drives to the fence.

The boundary count kept ticking till Rajnish was finally dismissed by spinner Sumer, caught at deep square leg for 26 off the first ball of the 17th. At 134 / 6, Yes Bank still hoped to keep SRP XI in check. Those hopes were blown apart in the last 3 overs, as Bangar helped himself to 45 off the 12 balls he faced in this spell. He reached his fifty with a effortless flick for six in the 18th, before slapping a boundary and a big six over deep mid-wicket in the next. The batsman left the best for the last, though, as he damaged Dixit’s excellent match figures with 20 runs off the last over, including two of the biggest sixes we have seen all season. Both hits over long on, well over 95-100 m in distance, sailed into the adjacent field.

Dixit (center) was the Best Performer for Yes Bank
Bangar’s savage knock of 93 not out came in a mere 46 balls, and consisted of 8 big sixes. He helped his team up to a big total of 192 / 7. Yes Bank are a steady batting side but they just do not have the big-hitting firepower to launch a chase for such a big total. To their credit, the SRP seamers Jambu, Akki, and Dinesh all bowled very steady line-length to keep the batsmen in check. Pawas and Deepak (37 and 35) both played handy knocks, taking Yes Bank up to 144 / 6 from their allotted overs.

Vishad Bangar was undoubtedly the Man of the Match, while Dixit picked up the Best Performer award for Yes Bank for his 3-wicket haul.
