Combative Chadha and Chadha Complete Last Over Victory

It was the first time we had these two teams playing a LiveSport match. This was a different Star XI from the one that played the previous tournament. Both teams carried a reputation and we got the close and competitive battle that we expected.

Star XI, expectedly, elected to bat on winning the toss but faced with consistent bowling, they never managed to get total control of their batting innings. In fact, neither team ever looked in control of the game. The balance fluctuated till the very end, and the result was finally decided in the last over.

Openers Get Off to Flyer, Deepak Yadav and Chetan Strike Double blows

Chadha and Chadha Seamer Deepak bowled with pace and picked up 13 / 3
Openers Lalit and Sonu gave their side an excellent start. Capitalizing on some wayward bowling by seamer Ashish, they put on 34 in the first 3 overs. Deepak Yadav, however, bowling at a brisk pace, struck a double blow for Chadha and Chadha in the 4th over, removing both openers. He ensnared Sonu off the first ball, caught at point, before rattling Lalit’s stumps off a good length ball. Captain Goldy then brought on spin from both ends, and Chetan, perhaps the slowest bowler to play all season, confounded Samar and Tejinder in the space of 3 balls with deliveries that were floated way up over the batsmen’s eyeline. Samar swished an ungainly slog, edging through to the wicketkeeper, before Tejinder was out LBW to a full toss. Star XI were in some trouble at 44 / 4 after the Powerplay.

Regular Wickets and Tight Seam Bowling Keep Chadha and Chadha Ahead

All-rounder Mohit was the Best Performer for Star XI
Harsh and Chandu, however, doubled the score with a crucial 43-run 5th wicket partnership. Harsh, particularly, looked good early on, looking for scoring opportunities around the park and putting away the occasional bad ball. Vikas and Goldy, though, kept the runs in check with very steady seam up bowling, short of good length. Bad deliveries were rare, and the two mostly restricted the batsmen to dot balls and singles. The pressure finally got to Harsh (30) and he skied an easy catch to Deepak at long on in the 13th over off Goldy.

Chandu was also caught in the deep, off the bowling of Chetan for 27 in the 16th over. Even though he had whacked two sixes, credit to Chadha and Chadha for restricting him to singles for the rest of his runs. 108 / 6 was less than impressive, and the batting side never really gathered momentum. Mohit played a handy 25 to lift the total to a somewhat respectable, yet below par 143. Seamers Deepak, Vikas and Goldy were the pick of the bowlers.

Solid Top Order Unable to Blitz Feisty Star XI Bowling Unit

Goldy was the MoM for his excellent knock of 39 and return of 1/23
Pradeep and Chetan gave a promising start to the chase. Pradeep, especially, seemed happy to take the seamers on. He swiped medium pacer Samar for a boundary over extra cover in the 2nd, before sending a short ball way over the square leg boundary next ball. Sonu was cut away for boundaries in the 3rd, before Mohit cut short Pradeep’s aggressive start (24) with a leg side delivery that was flicked into the hands of Sonu at square leg. Goldy joined Chetan, and the two decided to put aside brisk scoring for a while, in favor of building a solid partnership.

Seamer Tejinder came on in the 8th over and released the pressure with a series of loose balls. Goldy punished him for an off-side boundary, before Chetan (17) found the boundary past cover and behind point off consecutive deliveries. 16 came off the over and restored parity. Chetan was finally run out in the 11th over, but Goldy looked to be in good form and he compensated for his partner’s slow start with a pair of sixes and boundaries off left arm spinner Devrath and seamer Mohit. Sagar, bowling brisk left arm spin, came on for his second spell in the 14th over, and immediately got the big wicket of Goldy out plumb off the back foot.

Deepak Yadav Swings the Game One Last Time

Chadha and Chadha still needed 48 from 39 balls and they now had two new guys at the crease – Pradeep and Manish. Both were out in quick succession to left-arm spin. Manish was the first to go, clean bowled by Devrath in the 15th over, before Pradeep was snapped up by Sagar in the next over. With 34 needed of the last 4 overs, the game hung in the balance. The decisive blow came in the 18th over, as Tejinder conceded 16, including a leg side six and four off the bat of Deepak. This put the game in Chadha and Chadha’s lap.

Deepak finished it off in the last over, with a six off medium pacer Samar. He ended with a vital contribution of 20 not out in 7 balls. Coupled with his excellent bowling spell of 3-0-13-3, this landed him the Josh Talks Impact Performer of the Match Award. Chadha and Chadha captain Goldy was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round contribution, while Mohit was the Best Performer for Star XI for his 25 and 4-0-20-1.
